3D printing is a trend in the future, so why is 3D printing not a substitute for plastic injection molding?
For plastic injection molding, the runner part accounts for 90% of the total volume of the object, and is generally used for large-volume simple products with high production efficiency. However, 3D printing uses an layer-by-layer printing method to construct an object, which is difficult to process and has low molding efficiency, and is generally used for the production of fine products. In addition, industrial grade 3D printers are highly accurate, but require very high powder or solution and are extremely expensive. Therefore, in terms of materials, time and cost, 3D printing is just a new molding technology, but it is impossible to replace plastic injection molding.
Injection molds made on 3D printers can be used instead of short-term products and prototypes. When 3D printing dies are used to produce prototypes, they help to identify design problems and avoid the costly amount of aluminum or steel molds that are not well designed.
