In this high-loft mythical world, the 650FP is not really high. Before I had two down sleeping bags, one with 600 grams of stuffing, one with 200 grams of stuffing, and 800 goose down.



It is reasonable to say that the higher the fluffiness of down is, the better the warmth is, and the same fluffy goose down is more warm than duck down, but in the actual experience, there is no obvious difference in warmness between high-loft goose down and slightly lofty duvet. However, the duvet with less bulkiness is superior to water repellency. With regard to this doubt, I checked out some information on the degree of bulkiness and understood it. I hope to share it with my friends here.


Fluffiness in English is FILLPOWER (orFILLINGPOWER) usually referred to as FP. "FILLPOWER" has become the most important indicator of the performance of down equipment since its birth (no one). Until today is still the only and preferred technical indicator for many people to choose down equipment, then the bulkiness is really the better? Why do most of the adventure equipment use 650-750 feathers? Instead of using the highest standard of fluffiness. Is it because of the price? Or are there other reasons?


Whether it is Wikipedia or IDFL (International Feather Feather Testing Laboratory) and other authoritative sites on the definition of loftiness is not complicated: according to a certain weight of down space in a specific environment, based on this size to grade. From this definition, we can clearly understand the concept that "fleshness" is just a constant weight of fleece in a specific environment.



Warmness is of course the higher the degree of loftiness the better, because the larger the volume of the corresponding insulation effect is better, but the larger the volume, for a constant weight of down, the spatial density will be smaller and smaller, down support strength will also be because Provide more space and get lower and lower. Feather as a thermal insulation layer cannot exist alone, and there is not enough support force in other materials and use process. It is the fluffiness that is most easily lost in down.

Only after 1-2 years of feeding, fully mature ducks and geese can reach their optimum maturity and fullness. Even more full and mature cashmeres have the potential to significantly increase fluffiness. Mature birds are just a prerequisite for high loftiness. An important factor for the further improvement of the bulkiness of down feathers is down processing. Early down is a product after slaughter, because the cashmere is small and fragile. Therefore, there is no mature technology to improve the fluffiness. The downs need to be finished, washed and dried before they can be used on clothing and sleeping bags. These processes are important means to increase the dullness of down feathers. “In fact, the increase in feather loftiness was rather slow. In the 90s, the down products of MARMOT reached 725 fluffiness. After 2000, it remained at around 800, but the 900 fluffiness was in a very short time. It turned out that the origin of these velvets has not changed much, Russia, Poland, and the Andes.There is no publicly available data showing that human breakthroughs in bird breeding have resulted in a great feather (feather) quality of birds. The difference in fluffiness and actual fluffing capacity obtained by wet steaming is very large. It is no secret that the fluffiness of down feathers is increased to 900 by wet steaming method. The reason why fluffiness is completely mythological today is that many people are not aware of actual down comfort. There is no inevitable causal relationship between fluffiness and fluffiness, and the growth of fluffiness is far behind the speed of the development of down and fluffy standards.


At present, RAB, which manufactures extreme sleeping bags, has clearly resisted the 900 fluffy duvet produced by live pulls. The Jinjiang Grand Canyon, also known as the Changbai Mountain Grand Canyon, is located on the west slope of Tianchi, Changbai Mountain, Fusong County, Baishan City, Jilin Province, and is more than 20 kilometers away from Changbai Mountain Tianchi. The canyon is 70 kilometers long and is V-shaped. It has a width of about 300 meters and a vertical depth of 160 meters. Most of the two sides of the strait are steep cliffs, steep slopes, and unique lavas in the canyons. Shifenglin is a large landscape of the Changbai Mountain Grand Canyon and is known as the “Volcanic Natural Lava Bonsai Garden”. The route we traveled was from the peak-collar course in Manjiang Township, Fusong County, to the edge of the canyon and down to the bottom to explore the undeveloped second-level Magnolia Falls. Finally, we crossed the old pig farm from Laoling Forest Farm and passed through the road. In the primeval forest, there were no traces of human development. There was a flood of wood, mosquitoes, swamps and rivers, and occasionally flying several pheasants and pulling out a scorpion.










The weight of the Tianshi sleeping bag was weighed before departure, including 855 grams of the compression bag, which basically matched the official data of 820 grams (L code).




Instead of using the compression bag in the actual bag, the sleeping bag is placed in a waterproof bag. Compression is good.







In order to test the warmth of the sleeping bag under different sleeping conditions, the two cushions of Therm-a-rest, one Neoair xlite cushion, one Z-lite sol egg nest, three days of food and one day of drinking water, and one The total weight of the static rope (1.6KG) used for the descent is 15.6KG, and the weight of the so-so is fairly good.

On June 9th, the camp was allocated 1284M above sea level, 10°C before going to bed at 10 o'clock in the evening and 5.9°C at 3 o'clock in the morning (measured by the Casio PRW-6000 wristwatch). The lowest temperature in Fusong County was 11°C. 700M, the measured temperature meets the law of temperature drop of 6 degrees per km.



Because I didn't feel cold when I was asleep, I didn't have a zipper on my shoulders, I didn't wear a cap, I had a strong warm underpants, and I had a Pulland quick-drying long sleeve. Today I used a Neoair xlite cushion.






Woke up at 2:50 in the morning and I felt slightly sweaty. When I opened the zipper and gasped, I measured the temperature at 5.9°C. The outside should be quite cold and continue to sleep. There is still no cap.




Because it is grassland, the surrounding weeds are very high, and the humidity is very high. In the morning, some condensation occurs in the accounts, and the surface of the sleeping bag is slightly damp, but it does not affect the warmth and the fluffyness of sleeping bags. It can be seen that the moisture-proof sheet plays a very good protective role against down. This sleeping bag has a nominal temperature range of -3 to 20 and a comfortable temperature of 0 degrees. It is still slightly hot at around 10 degrees.






On June 10th, the camp set aside 1150M, before going to bed at 15.4°C. At night, the minimum temperature was 9.4°. There was still no cap on the night. Since it felt slightly hot on the night before, only shorts and half sleeves were worn tonight. Today, Z-lite sol egg nests were used to loan air cushions to teammates, and they also took teammates' mountain springs and put them under Z-lite sol.

As the camp underground is thick and dry, the pine needles are relatively dry, and there are less weeds around the trees. The humidity is small. In the morning, the inside and outside of the tent are dry, and the sleeping bag is relatively dry. This may be the reason why you wear less. Sweating, but there is no cold feeling.

Through two days of field tests, this platypus sleeping bag is quite satisfactory, light weight, small size, high down quality, no hard stem debris, no use of a little drilling velvet twice, design style fitting human space, not repressed nor empty The temperature scale is more accurate, the moisture-proof film is a design highlight, and the down and fluffy capacity is excellent. The bulkiness of the 650FP takes into account the fluffiness and support of down feathers. The price of duck down is more suitable for the public, although the taste is slight, and it is very slight after drying in the sun. No smell. The inadequacy of the storage bag used to keep it slightly is not conducive to full fluffy down, I hope to increase the storage bag.
