As customers print fewer copies in order to avoid long-term backlogs, inventory, and obsolescence, the length of the job is continuously getting shorter. Currently, printers are faced with the challenge of effectively producing low-volume (5,000-20,000 copies) saddle-stitching operations in the shortest possible time period. Facing this challenge, the usual method is to combine the job into four pages and print them in a small format (33 inches or less). The printed sheets are cut into single sheets or four pages and then loaded into a high-speed vacuum collation. The machine staples, folds and trims on the machine. More and more printers are aware of the important benefits of adopting a vacuum collator/rider method. First, there are fewer steps for offline stapling, which reduces the number of steps in the material transport process. Second, using sheet-fed pages, printing, cutting, loading onto collating machines, staples, folding, and trimming are all quickly completed. . Using traditional methods, printing, punching/folding, and then loading it into the on-machine system, the on-board system then sends them to the saddle stitching station for stapling, on the fly or off-line to complete the three-side cutting, in contrast, The process is rather complicated. Another advantage of this method is less damage. The state-of-the-art collator and booklet making accessories for special tasks are digitally controlled and the stepper motor drives all the units and stops the position when the unit is switched. It keeps the product quality consistent, which is very important for short-lived products. A waste of 100 units for a 50,000-print long run is negligible on the saddle-stitched line, but if the total is only 5,000 short-lived prints, 100 units are 2% of the entire operation. Most importantly, the offline vacuum collation/bookbinding system can set and change specifications in minutes. This saves a considerable amount of labor compared to changing the saddle stitch and the three-knife cutting line. Changing the speed is also rigorous because the short live length cannot afford to waste the time of many units. The customer not only pushed the business into a short version of the work, but also shortened the delivery period. They often ask for delivery on the next day or even the same day. By using the method of cutting-splitting-staging-folding-cutting, the printed product can be shipped faster than the conventional process. And because of the consistency of quality, it is possible to hand over part of the first batch of products after the trimming, instead of binding after all sheets have been completely completed.
