Outdoor Sports: A New Direction of China's Sports Consumption

Zhangye is located in western China, and its unique geological environment makes it an area for outdoor hiking sports in China. "Knowing China" has been held here for three consecutive years.

In recent years, with the expansion of the size of middle-income groups in China, the number of people participating in outdoor sports from the eastern cities of the country to the western region has increased year by year.

According to industry analysts, the value of the domestic running market is currently around RMB 30 billion. Taking into account the number of people in China, the growth rate of outdoor markets in the next 5 to 10 years may reach 10% to 15%.

More and more middle-income people attach importance to sports and improve the quality of recreational activities. Outdoor sports, a special tour that combines travel and exercise, has become a priority option for this group of people.

Member of the “Know China” project organization committee and the president of Tsinghua SEM Outdoor Association Wang Zhi said: “Many people who have never had outdoor activities experience, just participate in a professional outdoor activity, they liked and formed active participation. The hobby of outdoor trekking events.” Zhang Yanjie also said that like him, many enthusiasts even turned their hobbies into their own profession.

For three consecutive years, Volvo, a luxury car brand sponsoring the “Know China” project, is exactly the main force in China's overall consumption upgrade process.

Outdoor Industry: Foreign Output High Domestic Potential

Although China's outdoor sports industry is developing rapidly, there is still a certain gap compared with European and American countries. According to previous reports of the Beijing Evening News, China's outdoor sports industry market is currently equivalent to the European and American regions in the 1970s and 1980s.

According to survey data from the American Outdoor Industry Association, in Germany, the largest consumer of outdoor sports in Europe, 58% of Germans are active outdoor enthusiasts, and those under 25 are the largest consumer groups of outdoor products.

In the United States, the number of people participating in outdoor sports has always remained at 138 million, accounting for more than 48% of the total population. The output value of the US sports industry is three times that of the automobile industry, about 5 trillion.

Last year, China’s sports industry realized an added value of 400 billion yuan, accounting for 0.7% of its GDP. At the "two sessions" this year, Liu Peng, director of China's State Sports General Administration, said that the State Council will issue a second national fitness plan and that by 2020 China's total sports consumption will reach 1.5 trillion yuan.

Large-scale outdoor activities such as “Knowing China” have become more mature

According to the “2016 China Sports Consumption Ecology Report” recently published by the e-commerce platform JD.com, from 2013 to 2015, the proportion of basic sports goods consumption has been declining significantly, while cycling and other highly professional sports have The share of consumption has been on the rise.

According to the report, large-scale outdoor activities such as marathons are gradually becoming a lifestyle of the middle class. The report predicts that by 2020, 800 marathon events will be held nationwide, and the scale of consumption will reach 100 billion.

Compared with the rapidly developing marathon events, there are still plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as walking and crossing.

Zhang Yanjie believes that as the level of national economic development becomes higher and higher, the level of consumption of middle class people continues to increase. “For individuals, spiritual pursuits become an important part of life. Therefore, fresh, outdoor activities that enhance people’s original experience of nature and relax are more and more popular,” he said.

According to Zhang Yanjie, according to geography, China's northwestern outdoor resources are concentrated in high-altitude mountain sports, such as desert crossing or outdoor cross-country. The southern coastal areas are mostly concentrated in water sports such as rowing boats and caving holes.

The "Knowing China" project is to take full advantage of the geomorphological features of the northwestern part of China. Tsinghua EMBA trainees will depart from Xiakou Ancient Village in Shandan County, Zhangye City, passing along the Han Ming Great Wall, Shandan Racecourse, Yongzhishan Mountain and canyons, Gobi, forests, grasslands, mountains and rivers, and other rich historical sites and unique attractions. Geographical landscape, which lasted nearly 100 kilometers in 4 days, ended on the shore of the ostrich lake in Shandan Racecourse.

It is also called a choking collar, which is recommended by almost all dog trainers. Its principle is that as soon as the dog leash is pulled, the collar will be temporarily tightened, which will make the dog`s neck feel oppressive, and at the same time this collar will make a jingle that dogs don`t like. This is an effective way to correct the dog's wrong behavior.
