People generally think that the mains power we use, except for occasional power outages, is continuous and constant, but it is not. As a public power grid, the city power system is connected with thousands of various loads. Some of the larger inductive, capacitive, switching power supply and other loads not only obtain power from the grid, but also in turn cause the grid itself. Affects and deteriorates the power supply quality of the power grid or local power grids, causing distortion of the mains voltage waveform or frequency drift.
In addition, accidental natural and man-made accidents, such as earthquakes, lightning strikes, and open or short circuits in power transmission and transformation systems, can jeopardize the normal supply of power, thereby affecting the normal operation of the load. These problems with utility power will cause problems such as power outages in the UPS.
1. Power surges: the effective value of the output voltage is 110% higher than the rated value, and the duration is one or several cycles. The surge is mainly due to the high voltage generated by the sudden unloading of the power grid when the large electrical equipment connected to the power grid shuts down.
2. High voltage spikes (high voltage spikes): refers to voltages with a peak value of 6000v and a duration from one ten thousandth of a second to one half cycle (10ms). This is mainly due to lightning strikes, arc discharge, static discharge or switching operations of large electrical equipment.
3. Transient overvoltage (switchingtransients): refers to the peak voltage of up to 20,000V, but the duration of the pulse voltage ranges from one millionth of a second to one ten thousandth of a second. The main reason and possible damage are similar to high-voltage spikes, but there are differences in solutions.
4. Voltage sag (powersags): refers to the low-voltage state where the effective value of the mains voltage is between 80% and 85% of the rated value, and the duration is one to several cycles. This problem may be caused by starting large equipment, starting large motors, or connecting large power transformers.
5. Electric line noise (electrical line noise): refers to radio frequency interference (RFI) and electromagnetic interference (EFI) and various other high frequency interference. The operation of the motor, the action of the relay, the operation of the motor controller, broadcast transmission, microwave radiation, and electrical storms, etc., can cause line noise interference.
6. Frequency deviation (frequency variation): refers to the change of the frequency of commercial power over 3Hz. This is mainly caused by the unstable operation of the emergency generator, or by the power supply with unstable frequency.
7. Continuous low voltage (brownout) means that the effective value of the mains voltage is lower than the rated value and lasts for a long time. The causes include: start-up and application of large equipment, main power line switching, start-up of large motors, and line overload.
8. Mains power interruption (powerfai1): refers to the case where mains power is interrupted and lasts for at least two cycles to several hours. The causes are: circuit breaker tripping on the line, mains power supply interruption, power grid failure, etc.
The UPS works under the state of mains power, set the multimeter in the voltage range, connect the meter pen to the inside of the plug on the back of the UPS, and directly measure the DC voltage reaching the UPS. At this time, one person observes the multimeter display, another person unplugs the input line of the UPS, and observes the display of the multimeter at the moment of power failure. If the voltage value drops a lot, it means that there is a problem with the battery part. Therefore, do not blindly judge is the problem of UPS, you should make some scientific judgments, so as to better repair.
