How Designers Should Preflight Pre-Export Files

After receiving the output file from the customer, the professional output center first checks the file and then displays the file. If an error is found, it is generally processed for the customer. However, in doing so, the customer does not know the mistakes made in his design. The same mistake may occur again next time. Some output centers do not want to modify for the customer to avoid liability. Only follow-up inspections and output settings are performed on the files.

In order to ensure that the output is correct, it is necessary for the designer to pre-check the files before the output.

The content of the inspection generally includes the following items:

I. Whether to bring the relevant documents of the Ministry

After the design work is completed, layout files and other output-related files are saved in the same folder, commonly known as "packaged". The complete package should include:

1 Formally output, layout software or graphics software in a good layout file.

2 Process all the image files in Photoshop that are used in the layout file. Because some build software needs to link images, it is necessary to provide corresponding high-precision images.

3 Use as a JPG or PDF format layout file for screen proofing.

4 other explanatory documents, generally text files or Word files.

Second, the document is set correctly

In the process of designing, printing, and outputting, the settings of the page size, the plate size (ie, the bleeding size), and the print size (ie, the paper size) are often involved. Many people are confusing and equate the page size with the paper size. Some confusion caused by the output. In fact, they are different.

1 The page size should generally be set to the finished product size. If the page size of the 16th open magazine should be set to 185mm x 260mm, the large 16x should be set to 210mm x 285mm.

2 Platemaking size refers to the size of the bleeding added to the finished product size. Generally on the basis of the finished product size, add 3mm to each side.

3 And the print size sets the size of the printed paper or the output film. Due to the convenience of the post-process, the output also needs to add some marks (such as cutting lines, crosshairs, gray scales, color control strips, etc.) around the page. Therefore, the size of printed paper or output film is larger than the page size. To increase the page size by 22.2mm ~ 30mm, in order to complete the page print or output. If the size of the paper or film is not enough, a prompt appears during printing or output. The reminder may be printed incompletely.

Third, the check of the illustration in the page

1. Check the link of the image

In the design, such as using PageMaker, Invensys, Founder Edition, Illustrator and other group editions, you must copy the linked image file and the layout file, check the link of the image, and pay attention to see if the image location is the same as the typesetting file. In the folder.

Many designers will ignore this check because the images can be linked to other computers on their own computer. However, if you leave the camera and the images do not appear on the screen, the link will not output the image at a low resolution. At this point you should find the path of the image and re-establish the link. In addition, the page artwork should be re-established if it has been modified or deleted.

For CorelDraw, you don't need to look at the link because it's embedding the image in the page. It is not the external link method that is applied to the image like the above software.

2. Check the image color mode is correct

Check whether the color illustrations used in the page are all CMYK mode. If it is RGB mode or other mode, it should be converted back to Photoshop to convert to CMYK mode. Otherwise, it will cause the separation effect to be unsatisfactory or even appear on the separation plate. Case. Checks whether the black-and-white image is grayscale or a monochrome bitmap.

3. Check the image format is correct

The image formats suitable for printing are TIFF format and EPS format. Color bitmap images are generally stored in TIFF format, while vector graphics are stored in EPS format. The black-and-white image is best saved as TIFF format. If it needs to be saved as an EPS format, it needs to be converted to CMYK mode first, and then the contents of the three channels C, M, and Y are deleted. Be careful not to use the JPEG compression format, as this will cause the image on the screen to look very clear and the output will be blurred.

4. Inspection of image resolution

The image resolution setting should be 1.5 to 2 times the output screen number. Note that only bitmap images need to be set resolution, and vector graphics do not need to be set.
