Richard Blumenthal, chief prosecutor of Connecticut, United States, recently announced that six companies have declared that they will no longer produce baby bottles containing BPA (bisphenol propane). The baby bottles produced by these companies account for more than half of the market share in the United States. The chief prosecutors of Connecticut, Delaware, and New Jersey in three states last October wrote to 11 baby bottle manufacturers in the United States and demanded that they no longer produce BPA-containing bottles.
BPA refers to bisphenol-based propane, which is often referred to as bisphenol A. It is a chemical substance that is widely used in plastics production. It is contained in plastic containers and packagings such as baby bottles and beverage bottles. In recent years, some studies have found that BPA may cause endocrine disorders, induce precocious puberty, cause decreased learning ability, obesity, affect reproductive health, and may even increase the risk of prostate cancer and breast cancer.
