United States, Midland, MI/Oslo, Norway/Beijing, China United News, July 29, 2008 PetroChina Sichuan Petrochemical Company (hereinafter referred to as “China Petroleum Sichuanâ€) adopted Dow in a new 450,000-ton polypropylene plant in Chengdu. UNIPOLTM Polypropylene process technology from the Technology Transfer Division (a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company and its subsidiaries), AkerSolutions will provide a variety of process engineering design solutions and technical consulting services for this project. The plant is part of PetroChina's 800,000-ton ethylene facility in Chengdu and will be put into production in 2010. It will become one of the largest single polypropylene plants in China in the future.
"As the demand for polypropylene grows substantially over the next few years, world-class manufacturers such as CNPC will increasingly focus on the efficiency of large-scale production and the flexibility to adjust output," said Dr. Zhang Peifang, Vice President of Global Business, Dow Technology Transfer. . "UNIPOLTM Polypropylene Technology and the advanced SHACTM Catalyst System help technology acquirers gain economies of scale and provide customers with differentiated products."
“AkerSolutions and Dow Technology Transfer have worked together on several UNIPOLTM polypropylene technology production lines around the world. We are deeply honored to receive this project, which reaffirms our deep understanding of the process application requirements of UNIPOLTM polypropylene technology. "Johan Cnossen, President of AkerSolutions Process Business, said.
The PetroChina Sichuan project is the fifth factory in China to use UNIPOLTM polypropylene technology in the past two years and is the fifth polyolefin project that Aker Solutions has obtained in China.
Through this project and two other factories under construction in Fushun, Liaoning and Qinzhou, Guangxi, PetroChina will have nearly 1 million tons of polypropylene production capacity using UNIPOL polypropylene technology. AkerSolutions was awarded a contract to provide basic engineering design and technical consulting services for the three factories.
The technology transfer agreement of PetroChina Sichuan included the production capacity of polypropylene resin across the board, including homopolymers, random copolymers, and impact copolymers needed to produce all grades of plastics. The transfer of UNIPOLTM polypropylene process technology has been recognized by the market. Together with the highly efficient SHACTM catalyst system and other leading products, it will provide CNPC with low-cost long-term solutions to meet the needs of polypropylene production.
After the plant and other plants that are still under construction have been put into use, polypropylene produced annually using UNIPOLTM technology will reach nearly 11 million tons, which exceeds 16% of global production.
