American researchers develop "100 eyes" robot

American researchers are developing "hundred eyes" robots. These eyes are nine digital cameras installed in a frame similar in size to a beach ball.
Scientists say that allowing the robot to have "full range" imaging capabilities can greatly enhance its navigation skills. Computer scientists at the University of Maryland used mathematical methods in 1998 to prove that if the robot can see all the bearings, they no longer need other sensor systems.
This new "eye" is called Argos and it is named after the "beggar giant" in Greek mythology. It can send images to a computer that handles the robot's direction and direction.
One of the “Big Eyes” researchers, Cornelia Fermiler, said that if Argus can be further improved and mass-produced, it can reduce the cost of industrial and home robots. She said that having navigation capability is the minimum requirement for robots working in an unknown environment.
A report released this month by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe notes that sales of robots used for housework and home entertainment worldwide have tripled in 2002, and that it is expected to surpass sales of industrial robots for the first time in 2003.
